** If you will be compiling ACE from source on Linux, download the file with the extension .tar.gz, not the one with .zip. The zip file has several differences which prevent it from compiling cleanly. -- MJC
 
** If you want to compile and install the optional Ipopt package, it will require that you first download and install HSL (formerly the Harwell Subroutine Library). HSL is a commercial product which is free for academic use, and earlier versions are free for any use.
