I received MS degree in Electronic Engineering in 2000 and Ph.D. in Robotics in 2004 from the University of Genoa. I am researcher at IIT, in the iCub Facility, website. I was previously Postdoctoral researcher at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and at the University of Genoa. I have been invited professor at the University of Genova for the courses artificial and intelligent systems and anthropomorphic robotics. I am interested in tactile and visual perception, and software engineering for robotics.
I hold a MS degree in Automation Engineering from the University of Calabria (Italy) and a Ph.D. in Computing from Plymouth University (UK) achieved within the RobotDoC ITN working as Marie Curie ESR. I worked as Research Assistant at the University of Calabria (Italy) and Research Engineer at United Technologies Systems & Controls Engineering (ALES S.r.l. - Italy). Since November 2014, I am a Marie Curie ER within the RoboTAsk project at IIT (RBCS Department) where I work on the grounding of action words in the iCub humanoid robot through the modelling of tool affordances.
I am a researcher in INRIA in the Team Larsen in Nancy (France) since november 2014. I was previously a postdoc with the University of TU Darmstadt (Germany) and the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics of University Pierre Marie Curie (Paris, France). I did my PhD in IIT in the RBCS Department under the supervision of Giorgio Metta. I have been working with iCub since my PhD ^__^ My research interest is modelling, learning and control of human-robot interaction and physical interaction between robot, humans and environment. I am a postdoctoral researcher at Plymouth University, UK working on the BABEL project (Bioinspired Architecture for Brain Embodied Language) BABEL Webpage which aims to combine computational neuroscience models of language learning with the iCub. I completed a PhD in Computational Neuroscience in 2013. I'm currently working on interfacing the SpiNNaker neuromorphic platform with iCub to run spiking neural networks for tasks such as sensorimotor association and visual attention and this is what I will be working on during VVV this year with the IIT neuromorphic iCub. I hold a Laurea degree in Biomedical Engineering (in 2007) and a PhD in Informatics, Electronics, Robotics and Telecomunication Engineering (in 2011) both from University of Genoa, Italy. In 2010 I was a Google Summer of Code student for the KDE organization. I am currently a post-doc at Italian Institute of Technology, iCub Facility. I completed a MS degree with the EMARO program, which I attended at the University of Genoa and Warsaw University of Technology. I did my master's thesis at ETH Zurich on the subject of bio-inspired locomotion. My next endeavor is to study for a PhD and perform research in humanoid robotics.
I am a Computer Science Engineer. I received my Bachelor's Degree (Thesis on Computer Networks: "Wireless Sensor Network for automotive application") and my Masters's Degree (Thesis on Distributed Systems and Cloud Computing: "Large Scale Data Streaming"), both in Computer Science Engineering at University of Pisa, in 2011 and 2014 respectively. My master thesis was carried out at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) after a six months internship in the Dstributed System Lab (LSD): during this period I worked on the development of a distributed real-time stream processing system. Since May 2014 I am working as a software engineer at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) for the department of Advanced Robotics (ADVR). In 2015 I partecipated to the DARPA Robotics Challenge as a WALK-MAN team member. I received my Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering from University of Queensland, Australia in 2009 and my PhD from the Queensland University of Technology in 2014. I am a PostDoc at IIT working on Event-Driven visual sensing, in particular leveraging the high temporal precision of event-driven data for robot interaction with dynamic objects, for example catching a ball. My previous work includes sensorimotor learning with Markov models and visual place recognition across day-night cycles.
I received MS degree in Engineering from Osaka University(Japan) in 2013. I am a PhD student at Asada Laboratory in Osaka University. My research field is cognitive robotics and developmental robotics. I am interested in emotional communication between humans and robots with tactile interaction, and tactile perception of robots. My research topics are analysing and modeling the emotional development of human from infant to adult through interactions by using humanoid robots, and developing soft material tactile sensors.
I received my Bachelor's Degree and my Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Napoli (Italy), in 2010 and 2013 respectively. Since November 2014 I am a PhD student at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) for the department of iCub Facility. I'm currently joining the Neuromorphic Systems and Interfaces group, working on Event-Driven vision with the iCub and, in particular, event-driven optical flow and aperture problem in order to detect independent motion.
Jorge Luis Copete Vasco
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering from University of Valle (Colombia) in 2009. Since that, I worked as a software and project implementation engineer in Open Group Desarrollos Tecnológicos (Colombia) until 2012. Currently I am second year Master student from the Department of Adaptive Machine Systems of the School of Engineering at Osaka University, Japan. My aim is to get more insight on the cognitive development in humans through embedding biologically inspired computational models into robotic agents. Currently my research consists in building a computational model that explains psychological findings in human infants regarding the developmental process of the ability to predict others’ action goals.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering in 2008 and my Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence in 2010, both from "Sapienza", University of Rome. Now I'm a PhD student in the iCub Facility department of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. My work is focused on the tactile sensors of the iCub's hands, I exploit tactile feedback to improve its grasping and manipulation skills and to perform tactile exploration tasks in order to localize and recognize objects.
I received a Master's degree in Robotics Engineering in 2013 from the University of Genoa. Currently I am a PhD candidate at the RBCS Department of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), under the supervision of Francesco Nori. I work in the whole-body control group and my research interest are in application of rigid body dynamics for modeling, estimation and identification of free floating robot systems.
I was born in Velletri, Rome, Italy, in 1985. I received the bachelor and master degrees in Control Engineering from "Sapienza", University of Rome, in 2007 and 2009, respectively. In 2013 I received the PhD title in Information and Communication Technologies from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France, and in Control Engineering from “Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy. Since then, I am a post-doctoral fellow at the Italian Institute of Technology. My research interests include control of nonlinear systems and its applications to aerial vehicles and robotics.
Enrico Mingo Hoffman
[] I received bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering and master degree in AI & Robotics both from the University of Rome "La Sapienza". I worked one year in PAL Robotics, Barcelona, on SLAM and navigation. I started a PhD in Humanoid Robotics at IIT, Genova in ADVR Department. I participate to the DRC in the WALK-MAN team. My main interests are whole-body control, impedance and interaction control, software architectures for humanoid robots and simulation.
I received my bachelor degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering in Florence and I am going to receive my master degree in Electric and Automation Engineering in Florence on October, discussing the thesis about 3D object localization with tactile sensors, with the robot iCub as testing platform.
I am currently an Undergraduate student studying Computer Science and Management Accounting at the University of Lethbridge. My interests are Vision and Perception.
I am a robot! Apart from that, I did the EMARo master in France for the first year, Genoa for the third semester and Keio (Japan) for the master thesis. Now, I work in the Larsen team at INRIA (Nancy, France) as an engineer, in charge of the robots the team uses for its exepriments. We should acquire an iCub soon.
I received my Master degree in Biomedical Engineering/Neuroengineering at Campus Biomedico University of Rome in the academic year 2011/2012. At the moment I'm a Ph.D. student at Campus Biomedico University of Rome. My work deals with upper limb prosthetics and robotic hands, with a principal focus on their control. Prestigious partners as Scuola Superiore Sant’anna, Politecnico di Milano, University of Cagliari, International School for Advanced Studies of Trieste and CNR are involved in my project, the Handbot PRIN project, funded by italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. Another project I’m involved in is PPR2, funded by INAIL entity, with the aim of controlling a prosthetic hand providing real-time sensory feedback with invasive neural interface to the user.

I received my master degree in Computer Engineering (specialization in Robotics and Automation) in 2011 from University of Genoa. I'm currently a PhD student at the RBCS department in IIT, under the supervision of Francesco Nori. My research interests include whole-body control and optimal control.
After a master degree in Cognitive Sciences in Lyon, France, I worked 4 years as a software engineer. I am now a fellow at IIT, doing research on tactile object recognition, and will start a PhD in november, on speech recognition for robotics. I'm mainly interested in cognitive and developmental robotics, autonomous learning and language acquisition.
I'm Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology. I earned a degree in Engineering at University of Genova (Italy) and a Ph.D. in Neuroinformatics at ETH Zurich, developing analog subthreshold circuits for emulating biophysical neuronal properties onto silicon and modelling selective attention on hierarchical multi-chip systems. I'm currently leading the Neuromorphic Systems and Interfaces group, mainly working on the application of the "neuromorphic" engineering approach to the design of sensors for robotic platforms. Since October 2014 I am a Research Assistant and PhD student at Imperial College London under Yiannis Demiris' supervision. I received my Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Ilmenau University of Technology (Germany) in 2013, and a M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. My research interests include a variety of topics including both computer vision and human vision, visual attention, machine learning and computational neuroscience. My PhD is in the area of perspective taking, i.e. the iCub putting himself in your shoes to reason about the world from the humans perspective. I am part of the What You Say Is What You Did (WYSIWYD) project.
I received the M.Sc. degree in computer sciences (cognitive sciences specialty) from the University of Paris-Sud, Orsay, France, in 2010, and an Engineering degree in biosciences (bioinformatics and modeling specialty) from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA), Lyon, France, the same year. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in 2014, from the Neurosciences and Cognition doctoral school, in Lyon, France, within the Robotic Cognition Laboratory team for the FP7 EU project EFAA.
I am now a research associate in the Personal Robotics Lab since June 2014, as a part of the FP7 WYSIWYD project. My research interests include human-robot interactions, child development theories, autobiographical memory and language learning, all applied to humanoid robotics especially with the iCub.

After a working period, I started my PhD in November in the RBCS Department of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) . My research is focused on simultaneous multimodal sensor fusion for motion and force capture estimation for human movements providing both kinematics and dynamics measurements.
I received my master degree in Robotics Engineering (I joined EMARO, the European Master on Advanced RObotics) from the University of Genova and the University of Warsaw, doing my thesis at the University of Nantes on vision-based robot control of a parallel machine. I'm currently doing my phD in IIT in the RBCS department and the Computer Science Faculty of Genova about learning visual cues of interactions for humanoid robots.
Since 2015 I've been working as a post-doctoral researcher in the Synthetic, Perceptive, Emotive and Cognitive Systems group SPECS in Barcelona, in particular on social robotics european projects such as WYSIWYD.
I obtained my PhD in *Engineering of Cognition, Interaction, Learning and Creation* from Grenoble University in 2011. My main research interests are the modelling of social behavior emergence in sensorimotor agents. In 2009 I've been a visiting scholar in Michael Arbib's lab at the University of Southern California. After a short contract at the College de France in Paris where I worked on probabilist optimal control, I conducted my research between 2011 and 2014 in the Flowers group at Inria Bordeaux, in the field of developmental robotics. I've developed the open-source Explauto library for the modelling of curiosity-driven learning and have been a member of the Poppy project where he has realized a number of open-source robotic demonstrations.

I received my Bachelor's degree on Aeronautical Engineering and I Continued with a Master on Artificial Intelligence in Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. On November 2014 I entered the PhD program in Universitat Pompeu Fabra trying to understand how animals acquire relevant features from the environment and what means to be relevant, in order to implement it on the iCub. My research interests include perception, behavior, attention and self-awareness, and how can robots acquire these features in a developmental way.
I am a postdoc at the iCub Facility, Istituto Italian di Tecnologia. I am currently working on the TACMAN project -- tactile manipulation. My research interests include bi-manual manipulation, tactile perception, learning by demonstration human-robot interaction, and application of machine learning to robotics.
I recieved my Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. I continued to obtain my Ph.D degree at the same university. In my Ph.D thesis I studied and applied machine learning methods to tactile perception. In particular, I investigated texture recognition and slip prediction.
I hold a Master’s degree in Electronics and Computing from University of Toulouse III and a Telecommunications Engineering Degree from I.N.S.A Toulouse (Institut National des Sciences Appliquées) since 2000. I have since then worked for 13 years as a development and integration Engineer in MOTOROLA. Wishing to explore the world of Robotics, I got a MS in Robotics in 2014 and I am now a PhD student in IIT, RBCS department, in the whole body control group. My research interests are the whole body dynamics algorithms for modelling and control of free floating base robot systems. I will be focusing on distributed dynamics computations and the optimal control of compliant humanoid robot systems.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal. Now I'm a Master's student working at VisLab/ISR in Instituto Superior Técnico were we have our own iCub. My Master's is focused in trajectory learning from demonstrations and also reinforcement learning of the trajectory parameters with the goal of having a serial manipulator playing table tennis.
I received my Master Degree in NeuroEngineering at the “Università degli Studi di Genova” in July 2011. In April 2015 I got a Ph.D. in Robotics, Cognition and Interaction Technologies from the “Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia”. During his PhD he worked in the Cognitive Humanoids laboratory of the department of “Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences” and the “iCub Facility” in IIT, Genova. The goal of my Ph.D. project was to exploit insights from neuroscience in order to implement a model of Peripersonal Space (PPS) on the iCub humanoid robot. I am currently working as a Post Doc at the iCub Facility in IIT.

I am a PhD student from University of Southern Denmark. I am working with Computer vision - object detection/pose estimation in 3D. In my group we mostly work with industrial robots in industrial scenario and that requires to be able to estimate the pose of the objects with high precision.

I graduated some time ago in Microelectronics and then had quite nice fun playing with fireball cars and satellites. At a certain moment I changed my mind and decided to go back to academy being so inspired with robotics. I took therefore the PhD, studying our baby humanoid. From that corner point to the present days I have been giving my contribution to The Facility (sounds like The Factory). For a more serious description go read my webpage.
I am PHD student at INSERM in Lyon. I work on the European project WYSIWYD (What You Say Is What You Did). I work on language for sentence production and comprehension. We try to improve the manner to represent the meaning of a specific sentence. We try to implement language model in the iCub robot.
I am currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in the iCub Facility department. I accomplished my Ph.D. in Robotics at the IIT in 2014 and I received the double M.S. degree from the University of Genova, in 2010, Italy and from the Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France in 2009, within the joint European Master on Advanced Robotics (EMARO). I graduated in Computer Science at the University of Essex, UK in 2004, presenting a study based on Artificial Intelligence and in particular Multi-Agent Systems. In 2005 I accomplished my MSc in Interactive Intelligent Systems presenting a work in Interactive Entertainment Robotics at the University of Plymouth UK. I attained my Ph.D. in 2009 at the University of Plymouth UK, with a thesis on the Development of Cognitive Capabilities in Humanoid Robots. Currently I hold a senior post-doc position at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) working in the iCub Facility. I have a background in Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Systems and I am now focusing on the development of innovative techniques and approaches for the design of skills in a robot to interact with the surrounding physical world and manipulate objects in an adaptive, productive and efficient manner. I have authored numerous scientific articles including journals and book chapters in areas ranging across neural networks, language acquisition, cognitive systems and image processing. I have participated in several EU-funded projects including ITALK, EMORPH, POETICON and POETICON++.
