Dear Hard-to-contact-person,

We're planning to relicense YARP from the GPL to the LGPL. As a contributor to YARP, I'd like to ask you to read the details below, and then send an email saying whether you agree to or disagree with this change to this address:

 robotcub-hackers@lists.sourceforge.net

so that your decision is publicly archived.

If you are not subscribed to robotcub-hackers@lists.sourceforge.net you may get a message saying your email is being held for moderation. Don't worry about that, it will get through :-).

You can find the archive for the mailing list here:

Thanks a lot for your contribution to YARP! Paul

Details

This is to let you know of a planned change to the license under which YARP is made available. YARP is currently available under the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2). We plan to make future versions of YARP available under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later (LGPLv2.1 or later).

You can read about the LGPL here:

The goal is to grant users of YARP the freedom to license their own work as they please, while encouraging improvements to the YARP library itself to be freely shared.

The license change strictly increases the freedoms granted, so all current uses of YARP will be unaffected. This change does not affect associated codebases such as the ICUB repository.

The core developers of YARP have enthusiastically agreed to this change. If you have made a contribution to YARP, large or small, please post a message to this list agreeing to or disagreeing with this planned change. I'll be contacting all authors individually to make this request, but you don't have to wait :-)

Thank you all! Paul
